This week at
the Bumbles blog it's all about those films in which flowers play a significant role. Molly has assembled an impressive list of such films. I took my time thinking about this one & even asked Mr. Sassy for his ideas. Here's what we came up with:
1. Adaptation (2002) - A wildly creative romp based on Susan Orlean's novel
The Orchid Thief.
|
Starring Mathew Modine :) |
2. Flowers for Algernon (2000)* - A made for TV movie based on the sci fi book & short story "Flowers For Algernon." I just read that there is a Will Smith remake in the works.
3. War of the Roses (1989) - A dark comedy about divorce.
4. The Wizard of Oz (1939) - Who can forget the poppy field?
|
"I think I'll buy the flowers myself." |
5. The Hours (2002) - Based on Michael Cunningham's book by the same name. Amazing performances by all the actresses featured in the film. Wonderful book.
6. Under the Tuscan Sun (2003) - Sunflowers! And handsome Italian men.
* This is Mr. Sassy's contribution.
What comes to mind for you?

I had that poppy field in mind when I created our post - I'm so happy to see it sprung to mind for someone else!
Some of these movies are listings that I never knew about before. I may have to check out that War of the Roses one. I could use a little comic relief. Adaptation was a good choice. I'm glad it made your list because I surely forgot about it, which is nuts, since it was all the race at the during Oscar season years ago.
Meryl Streep rocks!
The Madlab Post
i may have to watch War of the Roses again....i remember it making me very uncomfortable...maybe i was too young to get the sarcastic humor...now that i've been married for awhile, i probaly will laugh!
the movie i first thought of was...The Rose. the Divine Miss M is one of my favorite entertainers ever and she was awesome in this movie!
There is also a Japanese movie i thought of...Tampopo (Dandelion)...it was one of Ken Watanabe's first movies and there is a scene in it with an egg that will make you look at eggs differently! ;-)
My banana-filled brain can't think of one movie. Dammit.
Oh, what great choices! Thanks for visiting my Movie meme!
Little Shop of Horrors. Audrey II:
"Feed Me"!
I loved Adaptation, so great choice.
Here's some:
Broken Flowers - starring Bill Murray. Odd little film but I have to see anything by Murray.
My Fair Lady - Hepburn played a flower girl.
Bed of Roses - Romantic comedy starring Christian Slater and Mary Stuart Masterson
I keep trying to think of a movie where the heroine knows that he loves her if she receives a rose or roses or flowers and she gets home to find a room full of flowers. What is that?
